Kanzō Uchimura
Founder of the Nonchurch movement
Converted as a student at Sapporo Agricultural College and later educated at Amherst, he lost his teaching post in 1891 for not bowing low enough before the Imperial Rescript on Education, and led the Nonchurch movement through thirty years of his Bible magazine.
